Kathmandu Valley

About Kathmandu Valley
The Kathmandu Valley is the cultural and political hub of Nepal, containing three historic cities: Kathmandu, Patan, and Bhaktapur. These cities were once independent states ruled by the Malla dynasty and contain numerous temples, palaces, and monuments of great artistic and cultural importance.
The valley is home to seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the Durbar Squares of Kathmandu, Patan, and Bhaktapur, the Buddhist stupas of Swayambhunath and Boudhanath, and the Hindu temples of Pashupatinath and Changu Narayan.
Kathmandu, the capital city, is a vibrant mix of ancient traditions and modern development. The city's Durbar Square contains palaces, courtyards, and temples dating back to the 12th century. Nearby, the bustling streets of Thamel offer shopping, dining, and entertainment options for tourists.
Patan, also known as Lalitpur, is known for its rich cultural heritage, particularly its tradition of arts and crafts. The city's Durbar Square is considered one of the finest collections of temples and palaces in the entire country.
Bhaktapur, often described as a living museum, is known for its well-preserved medieval architecture, including the famous 55-Window Palace and Nyatapola Temple, the tallest temple in Nepal.
